Bio / Work

My professional life as an artist started in the film and television industry in Europe, painting backdrops and decorative finishes. My formal training before that was in illustration and fine art. Later in my career, drawing on my knowledge of the history of art and interiors in set design, I began creating large scale murals for private residences.

Through my time working as an artist in these homes, owners would often come to me and ask, "Nathalie, could you help us with this, could you choose a color for this room, we have to decide how low to hang the chandelier, could you come and look at the samples of stone for the flooring, what colors should the door trims and skirting boards be, what about the hardware for the bathroom, what finish should we get, where should the "specials" in the tile repeat pattern be, where should we stop the wainscotting and so on...."

It struck me that something was missing in the flow. Someone to target these "in between" areas that fall in between the cracks of a renovation process.

Here are some of the projects that fall in between the cracks that I love doing. It was apparent to my clients that they needed guidance from someone who could see the big picture - how each choice fit in the grander scheme of things. I was realizing, along with them, that I could help smooth out the grey areas, talk to the craftspeople involved and come up with a roadmap that connects all the different aspects of a renovation.

I'm not an interior designer. I'm not interested in taking over a budget, gutting a space and filling it up with furniture again. My aim is to troubleshoot and be a guide with as much or little intervention is required by the project.
